While glue can be used to hold the boards in place, we do not recommend using glue as the primary fastening. Glue can be used to join the fascia to the edges of the deck. You should consult your user guide before using glue. This write-up can be read further. You can join the boards with clips or screws, and it’s easy to do. Depending on the type of deck you are installing, you can choose a technique. We will come back later. Glue can be used to reinforce your deck and make it tight.
Consider clips and fastenings
Step one
Clearing the area is the first step in the installation process. Remove dirt and grass from the site and use chemicals to prevent grass from growing on it again. You can dig the holes for the post after you have measured and cleared the spot. The holes should be deep enough to hold the posts in place. You should mix cement and pour it inside the holes. The outer frames can be attached to the post after the mixture has solidified. The frames and the posts should be fastened with screws. The use of screws and not glue is noted. You can attach the inner framing after joining the other structures.
Step two
Attach the joists to the frames you are attaching them to. The space between the joists should not be more than 16 inches. There is a requirement for a residential setting. In a commercial environment, space should not be more than 12 inches. You can do this task with screws. Glue can be put in between the frame and the joists if you want. You can arrange the boards on the substructure after that. Fix the starter clip from the side of the wall.
Step three
The starter clips need to be held down. The starter clips will hold the boards down if they are pushed into them. You won’t screw the boards down directly to the joist. It is the clips that you fix. This method only applies to grooved boards. You screw the ungrooved boards down. You will use screws instead of clips.
Step four
After installing the first set of boards, you can begin installing the rest. Intermediate clips are needed if you are using grooved boards. You will use screws if you are using ungrooved panels. You need to make sure that the boards are not more than 5mm apart. This spacing is important because of expansion and contraction. They will buckle if you don’t leave a space between the boards.
Step five
The pergola can be supported by rails or a post. You should make the step at this stage if you want to build a step. The next thing to do after installing all the boards is to cover the edges. The edges of your deck can be covered with screws and glue. The process is simple and requires that you use the right boards for the task. The frame or substructure should have screws attached to it. You should have pre-drill holes in the boards. You should put the boards in place.
Conclusion
We don’t recommend using glue as the primary fasteners. You can add glue to the spot after you have used screws. This process doesn’t make your fascia better than one that doesn’t use glue. You should leave the right expansion gaps where the board ends. A minimum of 2% of the board length should be left for expansion. We don’t recommend that you use glue as the primary fastening. The clips or screws should be used to install the boards.
