## Summary

Cold resistance and freeze-thaw resistance are not interchangeable. The latter depends on moisture exposure and repeated temperature changes as well as the material itself.

## The technical principle

Water distribution, interfaces and profile geometry influence how a composite responds to freezing and thawing. A test performed on a dry specimen answers a different question from a wet-conditioning cycle. Visual inspection alone may miss changes in stiffness or load-bearing response.

## What to specify and verify

Request the exact wetting, freezing and thawing sequence, cycle count and before-and-after mechanical results. Confirm that the tested profile matches the proposed product. Relate laboratory findings to drainage, trapped water, installation clearances and the actual site exposure.

## Application and common mistakes

A successful limited-cycle test is evidence under that protocol, not a direct conversion into a number of Nordic winters. Green Plank's Nordic project references can support questions about real use, but historical installations do not automatically validate a current profile. Ask for dated project records and matching technical reports.

## Key points

Conditioning: State moisture exposure.
Cycling: Record temperature sequence and count.
Retention: Compare relevant properties before and after.

## Comparison

Specification check | Evidence to request
Conditioning | State moisture exposure
Cycling | Record temperature sequence and count
Retention | Compare relevant properties before and after

## Does frost resistance eliminate winter slip risk?

No. Ice and surface contamination require separate operational and slip-risk measures.
