Step One

Get your cleaning kit. What you will need to remove algae from your composite decking include a soft brush, soap or deck cleaner, water, power washer or a water hose. You can use any that is readily available. If you use a stiff brush, it will scratch the surface of your wood plastic composite deck.

Step two

Put a bucket with one-gallon of water in it. Pour the soap into the water and mix it with your hand. When mixing soap with water, make sure you wear a glove. Adding 34 cups of chlorine bleach to the solution is recommended by some. We don’t recommend bleach, but you can add it if you want to.

Step three

If you want to apply the soapy water to the algae, you should try to remove it first. You can clean it with a brush. It won’t remove all the algae, but it will make it easier. If the algae are scattered all over your deck, you can spray soapy water on it. The water can be poured on the area if it’s just in a spot. You should wait for at least 10 minutes so that it soaks into the algae that you want to remove. After waiting for about 15 minutes, you can scrub your deck with a soft brush. It’s a good idea to scrub along the grain of your boards.

Step four

Continue scrubbing until all of the algae is gone. If you are confident that you have removed all the algae from your deck, you can rinse it with water. You can either pour water on the surface or use a power washer. When using a power washer, it is best to use a fanning nozzle because it will not let the rushing water damage the surface of your deck.
